Head of Data

Role Overview:

As the Head of Data, you will be responsible for defining and executing the MelliGold’s end-to-end data strategy — from data infrastructure and analytics to advanced modeling and decision support.
You will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team, playing a critical role in product development, risk management, pricing, operations, and growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Strategy & Leadership

• Define and own the company-wide data strategy aligned with business objectives
• Establish data governance, ownership models, and quality standards
• Prioritize data initiatives based on measurable business impact

Data Architecture & Infrastructure

• Design and maintain scalable data architecture, including:
  Data Warehouse / Data Lake
  ETL / ELT pipelines
  Batch and real-time data processing
• Ensure data reliability, performance, security, and compliance

Analytics & Business Intelligence

• Build executive-level dashboards and KPI frameworks
•  Analyze core business data including:
  Gold buy/sell transactions
  User behavior and lifecycle
  Pricing, spreads, and margins
  Liquidity, inventory, and settlement flows
• Provide data-driven insights to leadership and board-level reporting

Advanced Analytics & Modeling

• Develop and oversee models for:
  Demand and transaction volume forecasting
  Price volatility and risk analysis
  User segmentation and retention
  Fraud detection and anomaly identification
• Partner closely with product and engineering teams to operationalize models

Team Leadership

• Hire, mentor, and manage:
  Data Engineers
  Data Analysts
  Data Scientists
• Define team OKRs and performance metrics
• Promote a strong data-driven culture across the organization

Required Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in SQL and data modeling concepts
• Hands-on experience with modern data warehouses such as:
  BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar
• Advanced proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn)
• Experience building and maintaining ETL / ELT pipelines
• Strong knowledge of BI tools:
  Power BI, Looker, Tableau, Metabase, or similar
• Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  
  

Business & Analytical Skills:

• Strong understanding of marketplace or fintech KPIs
• Experience working with transactional and financial datasets
• Ability to translate complex data into clear business insights
• Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Leadership Experience:

• 5+ years of professional experience in data-related roles
• 2+ years of experience managing data teams
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives

Nice to Have:

• Experience in fintech, digital assets, gold trading, brokerage, or payments
• Familiarity with real-time data systems and streaming pipelines
• Knowledge of AML, fraud prevention, or risk analytics
• Experience preparing analytics and reporting for executive leadership or board members
