We are looking for a talented Social Media Newswriter to create original content for Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok.
The role focuses mainly on socio-cultural issues in the world. Our content is aimed at a Gen Z audience, so you must understand how to present complex ideas in a way that feels natural, relevant, engaging, and easy to follow.
You will be responsible not only for writing the content, but also for developing its creative and visual direction. The Graphic Designer and Video Editor will primarily implement your ideas, meaning that the responsibility for deciding how a story should look, unfold, and keep the audience engaged rests largely with you.
This is not a copywriting role. All content must be original and developed specifically for our platforms and audience.
Responsibilities- Research political, social, and cultural topics, identify the strongest angle, and develop original ideas for short-form content.
- Tell each story clearly and concisely, presenting a strong narrative from beginning to end without unnecessary filler, repetition, or tangents.
- Write scripts, captions, slide text, and other editorial content in a natural style suited to a Gen Z audience.
- Develop the complete visual direction for each post, including the selection of appropriate footage, podcast or speech excerpts, images, screenshots, graphics, and other supporting material.
- Prepare clear and practical instructions for the Graphic Designer and Video Editor, who will primarily be responsible for implementing the proposed creative direction.
- Check facts carefully, assess the credibility of sources, and revise content based on editorial feedback.
Requirements- Excellent written English at an advanced professional level, equivalent to C1 or C2.
- A strong understanding of American politics and the political and socio-cultural landscape of the Western world.
- Strong storytelling skills: the ability to communicate one central idea in a focused, engaging narrative that holds the viewer’s attention from beginning to end.
- A strong visual sense and the ability to identify the footage, images, speech or podcast clips, graphics, and editing approach that best support a story.
- The ability to turn complex subjects into clear, concise, and accessible content without sacrificing accuracy or nuance.
- Strong research skills and a keen eye for distinguishing credible sources from unreliable, low-quality, or misleading ones.
- A good understanding of Gen Z communication styles and social media content.
- Creativity, editorial judgment, and the ability to communicate ideas clearly to the production team.
What we value in your English- We are not looking for someone who uses complicated vocabulary simply to sound impressive.
- We want a writer who is completely comfortable with their English competency and treats it as a practical communication tool.
- Your writing should feel natural, clear, and easy to understand. You should know when a simple word is more effective than a sophisticated one, while still being able to adapt your tone and phrasing to a Gen Z audience.
- The ideal candidate can write content that is engaging without sounding forced, overly formal, or as though it is trying too hard to appear trendy.
- Visual creativity and storytelling.
- The Newswriter is responsible for more than supplying text. They must determine how the audience will experience the story.
For every post, you should be able to answer:- What is the central idea?
- What is the most engaging way to introduce it?
- How should the story develop from beginning to end?
- Which visuals, clips, images, screenshots, graphics, or edits will best support each point?
- What should the viewer see, hear, and understand at each stage?
- The Graphic Designer and Video Editor will help bring the concept to life, but they will not be expected to develop the main creative direction independently. You must therefore be able to provide a clear vision that can be implemented with minimal back-and-forth.
Voice-over opportunity- Strong spoken English is not required for the writing position. However, applicants with a clear, engaging voice, good pronunciation and intonation may also be considered for voice-over responsibilities.
- If you are interested, you may include a recording of yourself reading the text submitted as part of your application. Candidates selected for both writing and voice-over responsibilities will receive a higher salary reflecting the additional duties.
- Perfect reading is considered bare-minimum. A good voice-over must take into account appropriate placement of pauses and rise and fall to the tone as well as other nuances.
Experience- A background in news, journalism, social media, or editorial production is a bonus.
- Experience producing story-driven content—particularly news, political, documentary, commentary, or educational content—is also welcome. However, the most important requirements are strong writing, careful research, sound editorial judgment, visual creativity, and the ability to develop original content.
Working hours and location- Full-time, on-site position.
- Working hours: 09:00–17:00.
- Close collaboration with the Chief Editor, Graphic Designer, and Video Editor.
- Your work and research will be conducted in English.
Application process- Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a writing and content-development test. The task will assess your ability to:
- Research a political or socio-cultural topic and evaluate the credibility of its sources.
- Identify a relevant and engaging angle for a Gen Z audience.
- Structure the topic as a focused, compelling story without unnecessary information or tangents.
- Write concise content for a short-form social media post.
- Develop a complete visual direction, including suitable footage, images, clips, graphics, and editing ideas.
- Provide clear instructions that the design and editing team can implement.
The application task and submission instructions are included in the attached document.
Please submit:- Your CV.
- Relevant writing samples or a portfolio, if available.
- Your completed test assignment.
- A voice-over sample, if you would like to be considered for the additional voice-over responsibilities.
- A short explanation of your relevant experience and interest in the role.
