About the Role
The Lead Product Designer is a hands-on design leader responsible for delivering high-impact product work while helping other designers succeed. You will lead complex product initiatives, shape product direction, and maintain a high bar for experience quality. At the same time, you will provide design direction, critique, mentorship, and alignment across the team.
Responsibilities
- Own complex and strategically important product initiatives from problem framing through launch and iteration.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, Research, and Business teams to shape problems, priorities, and product direction.
- Navigate ambiguity, challenge assumptions, and help teams identify the right problems to solve.
- Explore, prototype, test, and deliver high-quality user experiences.
- Own the quality and coherence of the experience within your product area.
- Use user research, product data, and experimentation to inform and evaluate design decisions.
- Think beyond individual screens and create scalable patterns and systems.
- Contribute to and evolve the design system.
- Stay involved throughout implementation to ensure the shipped experience meets the intended quality.
- Provide regular design direction, critique, and actionable feedback to other designers.
- Help designers strengthen their problem framing, product thinking, and design craft.
- Identify experience gaps, inconsistencies, and quality risks across design initiatives.
- Facilitate alignment across designers working on connected experiences.
- Help designers navigate complex product decisions and stakeholder conversations.
- Mentor designers and support their growth and increasing independence.
- Partner with design leadership to raise the overall quality and capability of the design team.
Requirements
- Strong experience designing and shipping digital products, preferably within complex consumer products, marketplaces, platforms, or multi-service ecosystems.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong product thinking, interaction design, visual craft, and end-to-end product ownership.
- Experience leading complex product initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and significant ambiguity.
- Ability to move comfortably between product strategy and detailed design execution.
- Strong understanding of user-centered design, research, experimentation, and data-informed decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to influence product direction rather than only execute against predefined requirements.
- Strong systems thinking and an ability to create coherent experiences across multiple journeys and touchpoints.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, storytelling, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience providing critique, mentoring designers, and raising the quality of other people's work.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build productive relationships across Product, Engineering, Data, Research, and Business teams.
- A high bar for usability, interaction design, visual quality, consistency, and overall product experience.
