Product Designer (Legal AI Platform)

At Datica, we are building an AI-powered LegalTech platform that leverages Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Agents, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to transform legal workflows.

Our platform helps individuals, lawyers, and businesses understand legal information, work with legal documents, and complete complex legal tasks more efficiently.

We’re looking for a hands-on Product Designer to take ownership of the product experience and help turn sophisticated AI capabilities into intuitive, trustworthy, and valuable user experiences.

This is a full-time role for someone who is comfortable working in an early-stage environment, collaborating closely with the founder, engineers, AI specialists, and legal experts, and designing products from initial discovery through production.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end design process, from user research and problem definition to wireframes, prototypes, final UI, and post-launch improvements.
• Design intuitive experiences for AI-powered legal workflows, including legal research, AI chat, document analysis, drafting, review, and task-oriented AI agents.
• Translate complex legal and technical processes into simple, understandable user journeys.
• Design dashboards and workspaces for lawyers, businesses, and general users.
• Create effective interfaces for interacting with AI, including prompts, follow-up questions, citations, sources, confidence indicators, suggested actions, and human review.
• Design document-heavy workflows such as uploading, reading, annotating, comparing, editing, and organizing legal documents.
• Conduct interviews, usability tests, and product discovery sessions with lawyers, legal teams, businesses, and other target users.
• Develop user flows, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
• Build and maintain a scalable design system and reusable component library.
• Work closely with frontend engineers to ensure accurate and high-quality implementation.
• Collaborate with AI engineers to understand model capabilities, limitations, response behavior, and failure cases.
• Collaborate with legal experts to ensure that workflows reflect real legal tasks and professional expectations.
• Identify usability issues through qualitative feedback, product analytics, and user behavior.
• Contribute to product strategy, prioritization, and roadmap decisions.
• Help establish product design standards and processes as the design function grows.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in product design, UX/UI design, or a closely related role.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design work for web applications, SaaS platforms, or complex digital products.
• Strong proficiency with Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, prototyping, and design systems.
• Experience designing complex workflows, dashboards, productivity tools, or document-based products.
• Strong understanding of user experience, interaction design, information architecture, and visual hierarchy.
• Ability to simplify complex systems without removing important information or user control.
• Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and product discovery.
• Ability to work closely with engineers and understand the practical constraints of implementation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency across the product.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and operate effectively in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Ability to explain and defend design decisions based on user needs, business objectives, and product constraints.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing AI-native products, copilots, conversational interfaces, or agent-based workflows.
• Experience designing LegalTech, FinTech, RegTech, enterprise SaaS, or other trust-sensitive products.
• Familiarity with LLM behavior, prompt-based interfaces, RAG, AI agents, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Experience designing interfaces that communicate AI uncertainty, limitations, citations, and source attribution.
• Experience with document editors, PDF interfaces, knowledge-management systems, or research tools.
• Experience designing products for professional users such as lawyers, consultants, analysts, or financial professionals.
• Familiarity with responsive design and mobile product design.
• Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design.
• Familiarity with React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, or component-based frontend development.
• Experience using product analytics, session recordings, or experimentation tools.
• Basic knowledge of legal workflows or a strong interest in learning how legal professionals work.
• Experience building a design function or design system in an early-stage startup.

What Success Looks Like
During the first few months, the Product Designer will be expected to:

• Review the existing MVP and identify the highest-impact usability and experience improvements.
• Develop a deep understanding of our target users and their most important legal workflows.
• Establish a clear and consistent product design language.
• Improve the experience of core AI interactions and document workflows.
• Create reusable design components that accelerate product development.
• Work closely with the product and engineering teams to deliver polished, production-ready features.
• Establish a repeatable process for collecting, testing, and incorporating user feedback.
